FRANCE (Travel)
Just a short trip by EasyJet from Luton to Charles de Gaulle and we were greeted by Jean-Guillaume (JG) and his parents André & Marguerite-Marie. JG spent a year with us as an exchange student in 2002-2003.
As guests of his parents we stayed 3 nights in a Paris apartment and then at their home in St-Dizier (200kms NE of Paris) for 4 nights. They couldn't have treated us more kindly.
We saw Paris from the Eiffel Tower, the Seine and the Sewer. Yes you can do a tour down the Sewer and it is amazing the technology used to clean and operate this system. No, the smell was not a problem. In fact it was hardly an issue.
Other cities visited included Troyes, Bar-le-duc and Nancy.
Lorraine had taken French in High School and was able to read quite a few of the signs, etc but translating speech was more difficult. We were grateful that our hosts had a better command of English than we had French. André had a French-English Dictionary (Pocket Calculator type) which came in very handy.
