ACCIDENT COMPENSATION CORPORATION - (ACC)
For those outside of New Zealand, ACC provides comprehensive, no-
ACC has a "Prevention, Care, Recovery" role which in my opinion is really summed up with "We will prevent your care and recovery". Am I being harsh? This organisation which started off with good intentions in 1974 has, in my view, been too politically interferred with to accomplish those original goals. Many accident victims are poorly served by it and we now have to part-pay for medical attention and other needs that were all covered in the early days.
They also appear to have become an investment arm of the Government with millions, possibly billions, in the share market. They are 40%+ owners of a bank and in to real estate by building facilities they rent to government departments.
They set up a Complaints Proceedure, which in my experience has been a joke. I went through the procedure and they determined a course of action should be taken. However a Branch Manager said to me, "That is not going to happen." Persuing things a bit further, in 2017 ACC admitted that for 36 years they had treated me "despicably". Article 1
Through interviews in Stuff, the Sunday Star Times and The Press, Lorraine and I have been asked about our experience with ACC and I hope this assists in bringing about changes. However I do not intend holding my breath. Article 2 is related to changes needed.
